Free Concert Salutes America From ‘Sea to Shining Sea’, June 29

Date: June 29, 2019

Time: 2:00 pm

Indian River County residents are encouraged to don red, white & blue and wave the flag during the Space Coast Symphony Wind Orchestra’s free patriotic concert, Sea to Shining Sea. The concert will be performed at 2:00 PM on Saturday, June 29 at the Emerson Center, 1590 27th Avenue in Vero Beach, 32960.

Sea to Shining Sea will showcase our national heritage as conductor and artistic director Aaron T. Collins directs the wind orchestra with Victory at Sea by Richard Rodgers, “God Bless the USA” by Lee Greenwood, “American Salute” by Gould and marches from “The March King,” John Philip Sousa. Among the many rousing patriotic numbers will be a salute to those who served in the United States Armed Forces; veterans will be asked to stand when their service song is played. Also included in the program is the Gershwin favorite, “American in Paris.”At the heart of the concert is a moving work by Omar Thomas, “Of Our New Day Begun,” an elegy for the nine victims and families of the June 17, 2015 terrorist attack on Mother Emanuel A.M.E. Church in Charleston, South Carolina. Thomas’s composition is a powerful reminder that anger and hatred cannot stifle the human spirit. Audience members are invited to wear red, white and blue in a show of patriotic solidarity.
